Burn Survivors Family Weekend

The GFBF recognizes the roots of trauma from a burn injury, whether an adult or child, reach far beneath the surface of the individual experiencing the physical injury.  This weekend provides a unique opportunity for families to connect with others who share common experiences associated with burn trauma (both burn injured and non-burn injured) and acknowledges the voice of those who may not have experienced the physical burn injury but are closely connected to the trauma. We welcome attendees of all ages and leave the definition of family up to you! The only expectation is that someone attending the program sustained a burn injury, but this individual can bring family of their own choosing, young and old, up to a total of five individuals. Please note: at least one legal parent/guardian must be present throughout the entire weekend if minors are present, and they also assume full responsibility for supervising them at all times.

We are excited to offer TWO FAMILY WEEKEND DATES in 2017 at Camp Twin Lake’s Will-A-Way facility inside Fort Yargo State Park in Winder, Georgia! See below for additional information.

April 7-9, 2017 and September 22-24, 2017

Fall application deadline is Tuesday September 5th, 2017.

Fall Family Weekend Application

2017 Family Weekend Information

Check-in will begin at 4pm on both Fridays (April 7 and September 22) and dinner will be served at 6:30pm. However, don’t feel like you have to be there at 4:00pm. That is just the earliest you can get on property. We will not have formal programming on Friday night. You can use this time to get settled in your cabins, explore the grounds, mingle with other families, and/or participate in a few of the open activities. We realize it’s difficult to get away on a Friday with work, kids in school, and driving several hours (for some of you), so please arrive at your convenience. All programming will end both weekends on Sunday (April 9 and September 24) at 2pm.

Please click on the link below to review the document each participant is required to sign at check in. Please do not mail the signature forms in advance–these will be provided at check in.

Space is limited! Families will be registered in the order that applications and deposits are received.  Please note: a refundable $25 deposit will be required for consideration to attend family weekend. Deposits can be made via PayPal or check. You do not need a PayPal account to use PayPal.

If you use PayPal for your deposit, the card will immediately be charged $25.

Checks will be processed once they are received. Checks should be postmarked on or before the registration deadline.

Pending your arrival at check-in, you have the option to have your deposit returned OR make a personal donation with your deposit to support the GFBF’s mission to partner with the fire service and burn care community to provide fire safety and prevention education, support medical facilities and assist burn survivors in their recovery.

If you are unable to attend, you will lose the $25 deposit.
